Our local village Mur de Barrez

Our hamlet, Marcillac, is located 4km from Mur de Barrez. Whilst it is possible and nice to walk there, it is recommended you have a car. All amenities are in Mur de Barrez, including weekly market, supermarket, butchers, bakers, pharmacy, medical centre, restaurants, bars etc. 

Classified and themed walks

The Chemin de Cluny GR 465, where the GR 400 and the GR65 are linked together, passes straight through Mur de Barrez.  there is a diverse selection of trails for hikers of all levels. These trails allow you to truly discover our region, taking in rivers, forests, valleys, villages, castles and secluded farms,

Fantasy walks, all on the themes of forest, water, fire, wind, stone and nature. Each fantasy walk highlights a natural feature of the adjoining village.  All together, the walks express Carladez’s vitality and unique spirit. 6 fantasy walks – 6 villages – 6 starting points, they are easy, free and open all year round.

Watersports

We have locally an outdoor swimming pool, open in July and August which suitable for all ages with slide, separate toddlers' pool and sun lounge area - and also an indoor centre for Well Being with pool,Leisure centre with indoor pool, sauna, jaccuzzi, body jet showers, steam room.

Local lakes provide swimming areas, beaches, BBQ area, pedaloes, wind surfing as well as fishing and boating. The rivers also provide areas for fishing, swimming and also canoeing adventures of course with the obligatory picnic!

 

Local Activities

There is a wide range of activities locally which are available to occupy those of you with some energy to burn. Our region Carladez, of which Mur de Barrez is the capital, has been given the ‘bike tourist town’ label by the French Cycling Tour Federation (FFCT). Cycles, mountain bikes, quad bikes and scooters can all be hired  as an excellent alternative to seeing the countryside. Horse riding lessons, and guided treks at the Ranche du Barrez, tennis and squash at the local well being centre and there is a choice of 3 golf courses within 1 hr drive.
